INTRODUCTION:

This new course focuses on the requirements for water hygiene training as detailed in HTM 04-01 Safe Water in Healthcare. It details some of the measures required to deliver safe wholesome water at all outlets, which may lead to healthcare-associated infections. Relevant regulations, governance and guidelines will be explained as well as background information for some of the waterborne pathogens which may be encountered, such as Legionella spp, Pseudomonas spp and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM). The course covers how safety of water can be maintained by good hygiene practices for both the equipment and of the person undertaking the work.

The Practical Training Area will be utilised for a breakout session to look at the ways in which water distribution systems, water outlets, components and any associated equipment can become contaminated and how to minimise the likelihood of this occuring.
