This course will include carrying out and production of legionella risk assessments of open recirculating cooling systems. The course will give sufficient information to enable experienced people to carry out a Legionella Risk Assessment on these systems. We will also look at the pitfalls that await the assessor of these systems and discuss some of the things to look for. Delegates will discuss how the Risk Assessment is presented.

Delegates attending this course should have: a good working knowledge of the background of Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease because very little time will be spent discussing microbiological and medical aspects of legionella and Legionnaires' disease; an understanding of relevant legislation; some knowledge of cooling water treatment and its objectives; good knowledge of the basics of risk assessment

It is expected the types of people attending will be owners of cooling systems, engineers , risk assessors that are considering extending their practice to include cooling systems and water treatment chemists who wish to consider the risk assessment of these systems, among others.

Topics in CCA Training matrix covered by this course: legislation and regulations; risk assessment; risk assessment reporting; record keeping.

Course Content
competence; requirements of L8 including requirements of the Duty Holder and Responsible Person; types and design of cooling towers and evaporative condensers; variations in these systems and how they can impact on risk and their assessment; the assessment of water treatment programmes and what to look for when assessments are carried out; the condition survey; the Written Scheme.

The course can be tailored to meet in-house needs if required.

All delegates will be expected to complete a WMS Assessment. This will confirm understanding of the work completed during the day and complement the usual certificate of attendance, which is issued to delegates after courses.
