This accredited course is part of a series of modular presentations forming the training course programme of the Water Management Society.

The course is designed for those who carry out temperature monitoring and control of water systems, e.g. Technicians, Building Caretakers and Operators but is also applicable for Supervisors and Responsible Persons who have little knowledge of how or why the work is necessary.

The aims of the course are:

  • To explain the reasons why systems need to be monitored and controlled
  • To give practical instruction and guidance in temperature monitoring, sampling and inspection of hot and cold water services in buildings.

Course Content

The course will fulfil the following requirements of the Knowledge Matrix of the Legionella Control Association:

  • Legionella awareness, microbiology and origins of Legionella level 2
  • Legionella legislation and regulation level 3
  • Microbiological sampling strategy, interpretation & reporting level 3
  • Completing a work report level 2
  • Record keeping requirements level 2
  • Conducting a review with the client level 3
  • Water regulations & equipment design and installation level 1
  • Compliance with LCA service provider commitments level 1

As well as the above the course will discuss the management of ‘void’ properties, inspection of tanks etc., and the monitoring requirements of ‘other systems’.

There will be a substantial practical element to this course (in the Practical Training Area) during which work based risk assessments, monitoring, customer review and presentation of results to the client will be covered in practice.

During this work, the competence of delegates will be confirmed and their ability to complete tasks in an effective and safe manner will be acknowledged on the course certificate.

WMSoc Assessment

All delegates will be expected to complete a WMS Assessment. This will confirm understanding of the work completed during the day and complement the usual certificate of attendance, which is issued to delegates after courses.
